Built in 1504, Starre Cottage is part of the former manor house of Beer and is the oldest remaining dwelling in the village today.

| Historical Background | The manor of Beer was once owned by Henry VIII and was gifted by him, including the manor house, to his sixth and final wife, Katherine Parr. Starre Cottage is built entirely of famous beer stone, which was specifically chosen to construct Katherine Parr's tomb in Sudeley Castle. The final residents of the Starre family to live here, John and Dorothy Starre, died from the plague at home in 1646. A memorial plaque to them, carved in Beer stone, can still be seen in Beer church today.
