Review from previous tenant The Mews

We lived in this house, on Paradise Mews, for 8 and a half years in Henley-on-Thames. The first thing that struck me was the light as I walked up the stairs. I decided immediately that this is the right place. Even on a grey day, the house seems to be filled with daylight. The second thing that struck me was meeting Susie, the owner, who just seemed so kind and friendly. We also appreciated the large bedroom, spacious living room. I particularly loved the shower in the downstairs bathroom.

Over the course of 8 and a half years we never complained about small things, but when we did complain about something, it was normally dealt with quickly. Especially essential things like the heating or appliances. I have to say, the best landlord I have ever dealt with, who I now consider a friend.

As far as the house and the area, we enjoyed the view over the valley every day. From the living room window we enjoyed frequent rainbows, beautiful sunrises most of the year, red kites hovering overhead, and the occasional Virgin hot air ballons. The view over Henley-on-Thames changes daily and with the seasons. The changing colours of the trees and occasional reflections of the setting sun from the windows of Park Place, on the other side of the Thames, were a joy to see. The Mews itself is an intimate little community of neighbours who are friendly but not intrusive.

We enjoyed the birds in the back garden and frequently ate lunch and dinner in the private little garden, weather permitting. Being just a 5 minute walk to the town centre was great., and there is pretty much everything you need within 10 to 15 minutes walk. There is everything from live performances at the Kenton Theatre, supermarkets, a number of pubs, the train station, the river Thames, and more. It is just a short walk to the summer festival venues along the river, including the Henley Royal Regatta, the Henley Music Festival, Movies in the park, Henley Literary Festival, and so much more.

While much of the traffic congestion in Henley exist around the bridge and Wargrave Road, this location is on the western fringes of Henley. In one minute we'd be out of town enjoying the countryside. We'd frequently take off that way to go to Grey's Court (only a few miles away) or Reading, or Oxford (via Nettlebed). Badgemore golf course is about a mile away, and footpaths are crisscrossing the area in all directions, including the famous Thames Path.

The Chilterns is such a beautiful area, and we felt very fortunate to have lived there. This house on Paradise Mews was a perfect base for our 8 and a half years living in Henley.
