Shopping

There’s a wealth of local stores in Swanage with independent butchers, bakers, fishmongers and farm shops and well known supermarkets. There is always a local convenience store or campsite shop nearby, or try some of the locally produced food at the open air markets. Remember to look out for Dorset Food and Drink and Purbeck Produce logos, so you know that it's been locally grown.

Transport

Swanage is accessible by main road either through Wareham and its bypass or via the Sandbanks Ferry which provides a shorter route to Bournemouth. The main bus services are provided by Morebus. Number 40 runs between Swanage and Poole, number 30 between Swanage and Weymouth (summer time only), and the number 50 runs between Swanage and Bournemouth via the Sandbanks Ferry. Double-deck open top buses are used on the Poole and Bournemouth to Swanage routes in the summer months. Swanage has a restored heritage steam railway which operates for most of the year. Limited ferry services also run between Poole Quay and Swanage Pier. These are used by Swanage residents for shopping trips to Poole's large shopping centre, and also by tourists in Poole for day trips into Swanage. The nearest mainline railway station to Swanage is Wareham, with South Western Railway services westward to Dorchester South and Weymouth and eastwards towards Poole, Bournemouth, Southampton Central and London Waterloo. National Express Coaches operate a daily coach service from Swanage to London (One journey each way, to London in the morning, back in the evening).

Purbeck Sports Centre is a large, family friendly, Sports Centre in Wareham, Isle of Purbeck. There are many ways to keep fit with swimming lessons, exercise classes, gym facilities and much more.

Directions

If you are coming from the North or East follow the M27 and A31 to Wimborne Road in Dorset. Take Wareham Road to Blandford Road N / A350 in Dorset. Take the A35 to Wareham Road / A351 until you get to the B3351 to Northbrook Road in Swanage.

If you are coming from the West of England take the A352 from Dorchester via Wool to Wareham, then the A351 for Swanage.
