Shelley Cottage is a charming three storey town house, forming part of an historic Grade II Listed building. The site is believed to have originally been the site of a late 16th century home, rebuilt in the 18th century as one large town house. Early in the 19th century the literary greats Mary Shelley and Percy Shelley purchased the home, where she penned her masterpiece Frankenstein. They moved from the property in 1818 and at some point afterward the property was split into four homes that remain in place today.

The properties are particularly handsome in architecture, with a tall flat façade interspersed with covered storm porches. Ornate detail to the window openings and frames, along with an attractive roofline, provide architectural interest.

To the inside of the property it provides on the ground floor a reception room overlooking the street scene to the front, an inner hall with guest cloakroom and a bright kitchen and dining room with vaulted ceiling, overlooking the rear courtyard garden. Heading up the stairs to the first and second floors, there are two double and one single bedroom, along with a good size bathroom.

Shelley Cottage is set in a particularly beautiful part of West Street, just off the town centre and amongst some particularly handsome period buildings.

There are numerous bars, cafes and restaurants dotted around the town offering destinations for any occasion. The town itself is situated on the banks of the River Thames and the Thames Path follows the river through the town.
