The English Heritage notes state that it dates from the late 17th or early 18th Century and was extended in the late 18th/early 19th centuries. DIRECTIONAL NOTE

From Exeter Exe Bridges take Okehampton Street next, continue out over the traffic lights and at the mini roundabout at Luggs Farm, on the outskirts of the city, go straight on to Whitestone. Go into and through Whitestone continuing to the top of the hill whereupon at Heath Cross continue straight on with the property being on the left hand side after a third of a mile, marked by a Helmores board.

From the M5 motorway proceed on the A30 west towards Okehampton. After 7 miles leave at the Fingle Glen exit signposted Tedburn St Mary. At the roundabout turn left signposted Tedburn St Mary and on entering the village turn right at the first mini roundabout. Proceed out of the village whereupon Chants Cottage is on the right after 1.5 miles.
