History
Craven Lodge was originally built in 1827 as a residence for a local doctor. It was converted into a hunting lodge in 1856-60 by Hon W.G. Craven due to the popularity of hunting at that time and the close proximity of four premier hunts, the Quorn, Belvoir, Cottesmore and Fernie. It was bought in 1868 by J. Coupland, a business man who had shipping interests in Liverpool. His extensive alterations made it into one of the finest hunting lodges in the area and he was Master of the Quorn Hunt for fourteen seasons from 1870/71 to 1883/84. The changed world after the First World War is reflected in the fact that the house was divided into ‘apartments‘ for letting to the hunting fraternity, but it had a another heyday when it was enlarged in 1923-4 to accommodate ‘The Craven Lodge Club‘. Notable visitors during this period included Edward, Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) the Duke of York (later George VI), as well as the Duke of Gloucester.

Ground Floor
The property is entered into an impressive entrance hall with marble floor which extends throughout much of the ground floor. From the inner hall a staircase rises to the first floor and there is a cloakroom fitted with a white suite. The drawing room is particularly large and has two south facing multi pane sash windows and door opening into a dining/garden room. Fully double glazed and of wooden construction, this room enjoys a private aspect and provides direct access to the private gardens.
