Property description

A beautiful Grade II Listed Four bedroom detached family residence which was formerly two cottages, situated on around a 0.25 plot, occupying a pleasant cul-de-sac position in the sought after village of Ingrave.

Sellers insight "We have owned the property for about 15 years. We moved to the village to be nearer good schools in Brentwood and the countryside, but also commutable to London. Our neighbours are fabulous. We often have get togethers either at Christmas morning, after church, or during lockdown we would meet on the green in front of the house to be social. They are very supportive and have been since we moved in. We got cards from everyone greeting us to the Lane. We go married in the church and had the reception in our garden, along with many other parties and our children's christenings.

Our son went to the local village school (Ingrave Johnson) and then moved to Brentwood school, where our daughter spent many happy years.

We chose this property due to it's very unique character and wonderful garden. It's an incredibly seasonal house. The garden comes into it's own in Spring and Summer and the house is a wonderful cosy retreat in winter with Christmas being a very special time. The wood burner also creates a cosy atmosphere and given it's dual aspect is very inviting to guests as they enter the house.

Commuting is very easy. Shenfield is on the new Elizabeth line and the mainline trains to Liverpool Street take 20 mins. Fenchurch St is also available on the C2C line, via West Hordon which is a short drive away too. Both my husband and I commuted every day, until lockdown.

In terms of history, the house used to be two workers cottages that have been knocked in together, and you can clearly see many original features. It was first knocked together when neighbours fell in love and combined the house as one. The conservatory extension and downstairs bathroom was completed by the previous owners to us, as he needed downstairs facilities as he was increasingly ill in old age.

Since owning the house we have renovated many parts, putting in a new bathroom, refurbished kitchen, underfloor heating, the dual aspect wood burner and revealing the beams throughout the house to show off it's original features. Our favourite room is all of it really! Our kids loved their rooms but I think the conservatory, which we used for dining in, was the most used, along with the TV room, and during Christmas, the tree was always placed by the fire and became the social hub of the house, along with the kitchen (as always!)

The ideal owner is probably a family, or couple who love gardening and being in the countryside, but with the town close enough to access all amenities. It's a great house to bring up children but would also suit a retired couple, looking to live somewhere really special.
We will miss the house very much, especially as we have had so many special memories there, and also miss our neighbours who simply are the very best.

We decided to move Cornwall to create more adventure in life now that our children are more grown up. If we were staying in Essex we would not have sold the house. It's been emotional leaving the house but we are hopeful that the next people who buy it will love it just as much as we do. It's a fantastic, iconic and very unique house in the village, and we know the next owners will fall in love with it, just like we did."

the property On entering the property you are welcomed into the bright and airy entrance hall with feature central red brick fireplace, access to the kitchen, opening to sitting room and stairs to the first floor.

The sitting room flows into a further reception area with feature beams throughout. Double doors lead into the conservatory/garden room previously used as the family dining area ideally located to the Kitchen with access to the garden.

The well equipped Kitchen is of a traditional style with ample work surfaces, storage and integrated appliances.

Further on the ground floor there is a bathroom with separate shower also with utility facilities.

The first floor hosts four double bedrooms and a shower room with separate dressing room to the master suite with dual aspect windows allowing the light to flood in.
