HISTORICAL NOTES
Bigadon appears as Byketon in the Lay Subsidy Rolls of 1333. The King family built the first significant mansion here and installed the old clock made by the legendary Dartmoor clock maker Richard Hillson in the early 1800s. In July 1862, the Bigadon Estate was sold by auction at the Seven Stars Hotel Totnes to the Fleming family. The auctioneers were Heath & Son, shortly after to be incorporated into Rendells. The Fleming\‘s were wealthy bankers and John Fleming was a one time member of parliament for Plymouth Davenport. The estate was again sold in 1958 and subsequently divided.
