Burrowbridge is a small village between the towns of Street (10 miles to the north) and Taunton (10 miles to the south). Junction 24 of the M5 motorway is within 5 miles and the A303 about 11 miles.The village has a very good pub and a small church and is about three miles from the village of Stoke St. Gregory, which provides further amenities.There are excellent state and independent schools in the area and these include Millfield, Wells Cathedral and the Taunton schools.Historical notesThe historic area of the Isle of Athelney is towards the western part of the village being the refuge of King Alfred in the wars with the Danes.Burrowbridge is perhaps best known for the Burrow Mump an ancient earthwork now owned by the National Trust. From Street take the A 39 westwards for a few miles. Pas the Pipers inn and take the second left (100 yards or so) onto the A361 Taunton Road. Stay on this road to Burrowbridge.
