"It has taken a couple of years (and the addition of a new puppy) for us to decide that we can't stay in our lovely flat in Tillett Way any more, much as we love it and the area.

When I moved to London I discovered that I was spending most of my weekends in and around Hoxton and Shoreditch so finding a great one bedroom flat within walking distance of all the action (and now between both stations on the East London line) was a dream come true.

I have literally pinched myself a few times over the years when making the short walk home from Cafe 1001 or Cargo at 4 in the morning (via the Beigel shop of course).

As the years have gone by we've moved from the late nights on Brick Lane and Old Street to lazy days in the many local parks - from Haggerston, London Fields and my favourite - Victoria Park, all within a 20 minute walk away.

No matter where we live in the future will return to our local, the Carpenter's Arms on Cheshire Street, where they pride themselves on their wine and beer selection and always make us feel welcome.

The choice of weekend markets ranges from Columbia road flower market (on the doorstep, handy for getting those last minute deals just before it closes) to Brick Lane's up market clothing and cheap brickabrack, Broadway market for the delicious food and cool pubs.

There are so many great places to eat but worth mentioning is the community of Vietnamese restaurants on Kingsland Road and the best Chinese restaurant in London by far - Gourmet San, which is on Bethnal Green road only minutes away.

The transport links were excellent even before the addition of the East London line. Bethnal Green for the Central line and Old Street for the Northern are both within 20 minutes walk away but Shoreditch High Street and Hoxton are now closer and a good bus route takes you more central from 2 minutes away on Bethnal Green Road. Not to mention the numerous Boris bike hire points that have sprung up around us in the past couple of years.

From the beginning the flat needed some updating and we've put lots of work into this (at the time with the intention of staying for much longer). We've dramatically increased the amount of storage by installing a large fitted wardrobe in the bedroom and removing the old water tank from the hallway cupboard.

The kitchen is my pride and joy, this was planned as a labour of love with extra attention given to not only the design but also the practicalities so that we could fit excellent modern appliances in, such as the dishwasher and washer/dryer. The new combi boiler has made a big difference to our fuel use and luckily with insulated walls and double glazing it's quite easy to keep warm.

The large balcony gets sun in the evenings and gives you a feel of having an outdoor room in the summer as the trees block off the street but leave you with a fantastic view of the city. The next thing on our list to refurbish was the bathroom but as this won't be a big job and it is perfectly useful as it is we thought we would leave it for the new owners to put their mark on the place.

So despite how much we'd love to stay and how much I love the flat, I love my dogs more and need to put their needs above my desire to stay."
