Property description

In an elevated position looking over the town of Ventor on the aptly named Zig Zag Road lies this imposing Grade II Listed Victorian villa. Currently designed as two self-contained apartments it could easily be re-instated as one beautiful family home if required or remain as two separate dwellings. With its original Ventnor stone brickwork (which shine on a sunny day), high chimney stacks, finials, ornate bargeboards and vast, orangery style conservatory, this property has instant kerb appeal. It has been sympathetically refurbished and updated by the owners but still includes delightful period features. The property also gives the appearance of actually being two semi-detached properties as there is a drive providing off road parking for the ground floor apartment on the lefthand side and a driveway for the first-floor apartment on the right, both flanked by a charming stone wall. The ground floor apartment hall leads to the main rooms including the master bedroom with an en suite shower and a lovely bay window, the family shower room and the light and bright lounge with its charming fireplace. There is a second double bedroom and a galley style kitchen which leads into the dining area. The kitchen includes contemporary units, an induction hob and electric oven as well as a free-standing fridge, an integrated dishwasher and washing machine. An outside seating area provides views across to the sea. An external staircase leads to the first floor apartment that also includes the superb conservatory that makes an excellent additional seating and dining area. There is a split-level landing with a small staircase and a lovely lounge with a cast iron fireplace incorporating a living flame gas fire and a good-sized bay windows providing delightful sea views. With its muted grey colour scheme this apartment has been charmingly upgraded for modern day living and includes a trendy family bathroom with a stand-alone roll top bath and half height panelling. There are two double bedrooms including the master with an en suite shower, a utility room, a walk-in wardrobe with a washing machine as well as the impressive open plan kitchen/dining room. This has contemporary grey units housing a hob, a built-in oven and microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer. Outside there are steps to a sheltered south facing stunning sun deck that is owned by the top apartment. Here you can sit and revel in the superb views across the rooftops to Ventnor Bay and out to sea.

What the Owner says:
We purchased Upstairs at The Lawn five years ago as our holiday home and subsequently we were also able to purchase the ground floor apartment as well. Over the years we have restored the fabric of the building, revamped the inside and continued to use the top apartment as our holiday retreat and rent out the Downstairs at The Lawn, so there is always the possibility of generating some income or, indeed, purchasing the property as an investment and renting out both apartments as holiday lets. However, if someone would like to turn it back into a large family home this would be quite easy to do. We still love the area and this property will always have a special place in our hearts, but it is time for us to find a new project.
The location is delightful as it is quite close to the high street and very near the superb Royal Hotel and St Boniface Downs. This is owned by the National Trust and is an area of Special Scientific Interest and offers wonderful places to go for a country walk. It is named after the 8th century St Boniface who is believed to have preached in Bonchurch at Pulpit Rock.
Ventnor is a charming town and became one of the more famous seaside resorts during Victorian times when Queen Victoria frequented Osborne House as she liked its unique micro-climate. The town has a delightful seafront with a traditional bandstand and great walks along the sea wall and beside the gorgeous Cascade Gardens.
