Property description

What Our Seller Says

This has been our family home for the last 33 years and previous to that we lived at no. 27 for over 8 years.

We have been very happy in this general area but the main attraction has been ' The Park ' which I believe is the only private park now left in South London.

Brockley Hill Park Estate Ornamental Garden Trust to give it it's official name, was created in 1853 and has been a great source of pleasure to our family and friends for many years.

It is, in area, approximately four and a half acres with grassed areas, paths and mature trees. All the trees have preservation orders on them and there has recently been extensive planting of trees and shrubs.

We have hedgehogs in the park and bats have been spotted, so bat boxes have been attached to trees along with several types of bird nesting boxes. We have green and greater spotted woodpeckers, finches, 4 types of tit and have had visits from sparrow hawks to name but a few of our bird visitors.

There is a frog and toad log pile for their hibernation. The greater spotted woodpecker is a frequent visitor to the peanut feeder in the garden. Our garden pond has frogs, toads and several species of newt. In summer the garden is visited by butterflies, moths and many types of bee due to the insect friendly planting and a Humming Bird Hawk Moth was spotted on several sunny evenings.

Each year there is a tennis tournament on the tennis court which is run by the tennis section of the social club. There is a full calendar of social events held during the year with something for all ages.

Our children and grandchildren especially enjoyed the Easter egg hunts and firework displays. All ages join in the barbecues during the summer months.

The park has no public access and is bordered by the back gardens of the four roads surrounding it. Our children and grandchildren have enjoyed the freedom to play out with friends and explore The Park and developed a great love of nature.

From The Park there are views over London and we have been able to watch The Shard grow! In fact we have views of many parts of London from the surrounding area including Canary Wharf and the Gherkin.

From our front bedrooms we have distant views of the Kent countryside and Horniman Museum ( a favourite place to visit ).

The immediate area has three good primary schools in Dalmain, Stillness and St William of York. With boys, girls and mixed senior schools and St Dunstan's College all within easy reach. A few minutes walk away is an adult education college.

The East London Line runs through Honor Oak Park station which is an 8 minute walk away and from there London Bridge can be reached in about 12 minutes and Victoria in about 40 minutes.

5 minutes walk away is a selection of small local shops and pubs. The area is very well served by several good restaurants including the award winning Babur Indian restaurant.

A few minutes walk away is Blythe Hill Park, sat on the top of the hill with stunning views of London , a children's play area, dog walking area and summer community festival events. We are well served by several bus routes and the stations in Catford, a 15 min. walk away, take you into London and Kent. Blackheath, Greenwich, Dulwich and Crystal Palace Parks are all a short drive away.
